Zelna Fourie has always been passionate about drawing and painting, wanting to bring happiness, inspiration and beauty into her life and the lives of others. Nurturing her artistic gift, life took Zelna on many journeys before she realised her true calling as an artist.
After travelling the world, she returned home to South Africa in 2013 to fulfil and live the dream of becoming an artist.
Since 2014, Zelna has been doing just that, working mainly in charcoal and oils. Inspired by everything she loves, recurring themes include the movement of water, dancers, swimmers and the rich symbolism bubbling under the surface of seemingly ordinary life scenes. Drawing from her love of fashion and isolated spaces, these themes have come to characterise her work.
Her earliest memories take her back to her days of tearing pictures from magazines. The power of images and photography have been a constant fascination.
Just as eclectic as her work, Zelna doesn’t believe in limiting her artwork to one subject or style, welcoming art’s propensity to be an element of intrigue, revolution, unashamed social commentary, enlightenment and hope.
